Kangaroo Rat (Dipodomys ordii)
b. The Kangaroo Rat is a native, threatened small mammal to Nevada. It lives in desert grasslands and prefers areas vegetated by sagebrush. The K. Rat can be recognized by its long tail with a tuft at the end. It has a small, pointed head with big ears and hops around. Kangaroo rats are very well adapted to dry environments. They may go a whole lifetime without a drink of water, getting moisture from their food. They plug the burrow entrance in daytime to reabsorb moisture from their breath.
