In the middle watershed, the  main stem of the Carson River flows from Mexican Dam in Carson City, through Dayton, NV to the Lahontan Reservoir. This reservoir stores water from the Carson and Truckee Rivers for use in the Newlands Project farmlands of Fallon. The middle watershed is home to the State Capital, Carson City, and to the frontier gold and silver metropolis of Virginia City.
